SAEL Industries has kicked off construction of a large-scale integrated solar manufacturing facility in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in India's push toward energy self-reliance. The project is being developed through its wholly owned subsidiary, SAEL Solar P6 Pvt. Ltd. (SSP6PL), and will house 5 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity alongside 5 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity under one roof.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone at Sector 8 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Spanning nearly 200 acres, the complex is poised to cement the state's growing reputation as a destination for renewable energy manufacturing.
The facility will specialize in high-efficiency TOPCon solar cells and modules, a next-generation technology recognized for its superior energy conversion rates and improved power output compared to conventional alternatives.
By bringing both cell and module production together at a single site, SAEL is targeting tighter supply chain integration and a meaningful reduction in India's reliance on imported solar equipment.
The total investment for the project stands at approximately INR 8,200 crore, aligning closely with the Government of India's broader agenda to scale up domestic manufacturing as part of the country's clean energy transition. The facility is expected to become a key contributor to India's ambition of building a fully self-reliant solar manufacturing ecosystem.
Beyond production capacity, the project carries significant socioeconomic weight. The company estimates that the manufacturing complex will generate close to 5,000 direct jobs and around 15,000 indirect employment opportunities, while also spurring growth in ancillary industries and supporting local infrastructure development.
SAEL described the investment as a reflection of its long-term commitment to India's renewable energy sector and its confidence in Uttar Pradesh as an emerging industrial hub. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to play a pivotal role in satisfying the country's rising demand for domestically produced solar components while advancing India's clean energy and energy security objectives.
