Lufthansa Cargo launches new features for temperature-sensitive freightt

In a strategic push to enhance its freight forwarding and supply chain solutions, Germany-based Lufthansa Cargo has introduced four new features targeting the temperature-sensitive logistics sector. These upgrades address the rising global demand for secure and transparent transport of critical items such as pharmaceuticals, vaccines, microchips, and other high-value, high-tech goods. The additions include:1. Pharma Control Tower (24/7 Monitoring): Active since late April, this feature provides around-the-clock shipment monitoring at key Cargo hubs-Frankfurt, Lufthansa Munich, and Brussels ensuring real-time visibility and intervention capabilities. 2. Thermo Covers: For “Passive Temp Support” shipments, Lufthansa now offers thermal protection during ramp handling, particularly on routes from Frankfurt to cities like Atlanta, Cairo, Chicago, and Toronto during summer months. These are currently provided free of charge. 3. smartULD (Live Tracking): This innovation allows continuous temperature data capture via smart containers equipped with sensors. Customers can access this data via the “eServices” section of the Lufthansa Cargo website, enhancing end-to-end shipment. These enhancements strengthen Lufthansa Cargo’s role as a global leader in freight forwarding, especially in cold chain logistics. They align with broader freight forwarding sector trends, where digital solutions, real-time data visibility, and risk mitigation are increasingly vital in managing complex supply chains. Upcoming developments include website-based temperature data access at specific stations and enhancements to the temperature-controlled trucking network, all aimed at boosting efficiency, reliability, and service quality in a highly competitive logistics landscape. This move sets a strong example in the freight handling process, particularly relevant for nations like India, where challenges such as port congestion and cold chain inefficiencies persist.
