Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Maersk Chairman Maersk Uggla in Gothenburg, Sweden, for wide-ranging talks focused on expanding investments and deepening collaboration across India's rapidly growing maritime, logistics, and infrastructure sectors.

The meeting underscored the strong and longstanding partnership between India and the global shipping giant, with discussions centering on new opportunities in port infrastructure, maritime logistics, supply chain development, green shipping, and skilled workforce mobility.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted India's rise as a major global manufacturing, trade, and logistics destination, pointing to landmark initiatives such as PM Gati Shakti, Sagarmala, the National Logistics Policy, and various port-led development programmes. He stressed the significant investment potential within India's expanding maritime ecosystem and called on Maersk to deepen its engagement as the country enters its next major phase of infrastructure growth.

Modi also acknowledged Maersk's long-standing presence and contributions in India, especially in strengthening container logistics, supply chain integration, and maritime connectivity.

He encouraged the company to explore new investment opportunities in port modernization, multimodal logistics, warehousing, inland connectivity, and digital supply chain solutions.

Both sides reviewed prospects for advancing cooperation in green shipping and maritime decarbonization, areas increasingly vital to the future of global trade. Discussions included potential collaboration on cleaner fuels, sustainable maritime operations, energy-efficient logistics systems, and environmentally responsible shipping practices.

The meeting also addressed skilled workforce mobility and development, with both parties exploring ways to strengthen cooperation in maritime talent, training, and skill development to meet the evolving demands of the global shipping and logistics industry.

The engagement reflects India's growing importance in global trade networks and its ambition to become a leading logistics and maritime powerhouse. Investments in ports, logistics, and integrated infrastructure are seen as critical enablers of India's economic growth and competitiveness over the coming decade.

The interaction between Prime Minister Modi and the Maersk leadership further reinforces India's commitment to building strong partnerships with global industry leaders to develop resilient supply chains, modern maritime infrastructure, and sustainable trade ecosystems.

The Gothenburg meeting signals clear momentum for deeper India-Maersk collaboration spanning ports, logistics, green shipping, and future-ready maritime solutions, all aligned with India's vision of becoming a globally connected economic powerhouse.
