India’s Logistics Performance Sees Major Leap in Global Rankingst

India has made big progress in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2023, ranking 22nd in International Shipments and 38th overall among 139 countries. This shows India’s efforts to improve logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and use advanced technology. Why Did India’s Logistics Ranking Improve? India’s logistics sector has grown due to better policies, technology, and infrastructure. The country has made global trade easier by speeding up supply chains, reducing delays, and improving freight movement. India jumped from 44th place in 2018 to 22nd in 2023, thanks to government efforts to boost global trade.Indian ports now process shipments in just 0.9 days, faster than the USA (1.5 days), Australia (1.7 days), and Germany (1.3 days). This is due to modernization and automation. How Government Policies Helped Logistics Growth The Indian government has launched several logistics reforms to make freight transport faster and cheaper: PM GatiShakti National Master Plan: Started in October 2021, this project connects roads, railways, and ports to improve cargo movement and cut logistics costs by 2024-25.National Logistics Policy (NLP): Launched in September 2022, this policy aims to improve last-mile delivery, reduce bottlenecks, and make logistics more structured and affordable. With these improvements, India is becoming a global logistics hub, making supply chain management smoother and boosting international trade.
