Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, held high-level discussions with Mr. Vincent Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of global shipping major Maersk, on advancing circular economy–driven maritime infrastructure and strengthening sustainable, port-led development in the state. The discussions focused in particular on the development of Vadhavan Port as a next-generation, environmentally responsible maritime gateway. The interaction explored potential areas of collaboration between the Government of Maharashtra and global shipping players to promote green port operations, low-emission logistics solutions, and technology-enabled infrastructure aligned with international sustainability standards. Both sides discussed the integration of circular economy principles into port planning, including energy efficiency measures, adoption of alternative fuels, optimised cargo-handling systems, and reducing the overall environmental footprint of port operations. A key focus of the discussions was positioning the upcoming Vadhavan Port as a world-class hub for India’s maritime trade, capable of accommodating future cargo growth while adhering to the highest benchmarks of sustainability, resilience, and operational efficiency. The port is envisioned as a strategic national asset that will enhance India’s global trade competitiveness, strengthen supply-chain connectivity, and support long-term economic growth.
