Keysight Technologies has announced plans to begin local manufacturing of its test and measurement hardware in Chennai, expanding its global production footprint and positioning India as a key supply base for both domestic and international markets.

The facility will be rolled out in phases, initially focusing on high-precision test equipment used across mission-critical sectors. This marks Keysight’s entry into hardware manufacturing in India, complementing its existing presence in R&D, engineering, and sales.

Sudhir Tangri, APAC VP and GM at Keysight, told CRN India, “When we talk about manufacturing, it refers to end-to-end operations in any location where we operate. This includes the entire value chain—from sourcing components to PCB assembly, calibration, testing, quality control, and finally shipping.”

Tangri added, “The goal of setting up manufacturing operations in India is to diversify global supply chains. If only assembly is done locally, that objective is not fully met. Hence, we are focusing on a complete, end-to-end manufacturing setup.” He also noted that while India’s manufacturing ecosystem is evolving, some components will still need to be imported even as a majority are sourced locally.

Targeting Semiconductor, Defence, AI, and Research Demand

The Chennai facility will support customers in aerospace and defence, government R&D, industrial sectors, and academic and research institutions. Local production aims to streamline procurement timelines, improve access for Indian customers, and support global fulfilment.

Rising demand for advanced test and measurement systems is being driven by semiconductors, AI infrastructure, next-generation wireless technologies, and quantum research. Keysight’s equipment supports semiconductor design validation, production testing, radar and electronic warfare systems, satellite applications, and research in national laboratories and universities.

The expansion aligns with government initiatives such as Make in India, Semicon India, and the National Quantum Mission, all of which are fostering domestic manufacturing and advanced technology research.

India’s electronics manufacturing sector is expected to surpass $300 billion by 2026, creating sustained demand for testing and validation systems. By producing locally, Keysight aims to reduce lead times, strengthen supply chain resilience, and cater to growing regional and global requirements.

This move reflects a broader trend of global technology companies expanding manufacturing capabilities in India to diversify supply chains and respond to rising local and international demand.
