CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd has inducted its first heavy-duty battery electric vehicle in collaboration with Volvo, marking a significant step into high-capacity electric freight operations. The development reflects the company’s transition from pilot projects to embedding electric vehicles within its core logistics framework.

The newly inducted vehicle is the first heavy-duty electric truck in CJ Darcl’s fleet and also the third of its kind introduced by Volvo Trucks in India, positioning the company among the early movers in adopting advanced electric freight solutions in the country.

“Sustainability is increasingly shaping how logistics networks are planned and executed. With this induction, we are taking a meaningful step towards integrating cleaner technologies into our mainstream operations. As the industry evolves, we at CJ Darcl Logistics are committed to becoming a carbon-neutral organisation. By promoting sustainable practices, we are actively progressing towards this vision while setting a benchmark for the logistics sector,” said Nikhil Agarwal, President, CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd.

This milestone builds on CJ Darcl’s 2024 initiative under the theme “Driving Towards a Greener Tomorrow,” during which the company deployed electric vehicles for intra-city aftermarket supply operations in Bengaluru. That initiative helped establish the operational viability of electric mobility within its network. The addition of a heavy-duty electric truck now expands its capabilities to support higher payloads and longer-distance transportation.

The collaboration with Volvo Trucks has been in development for over 18 months, involving detailed evaluations of technical specifications, route optimisation, payload considerations, and system integration. Volvo’s expertise in electric powertrains, combined with its established presence in India’s commercial vehicle segment, has played a key role in enabling this transition to heavy-duty electric freight operations.

According to CJ Darcl, the move aligns with its broader decarbonisation roadmap focused on tracking, reporting, and reducing Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions. Integrating electric mobility into its multimodal logistics network marks a decisive shift towards low-emission transportation, while also addressing evolving customer expectations and supporting national sustainability goals.

CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd operates an extensive multimodal network spanning 6,691 locations across India and collaborates with a vendor base of 554,781. In FY25, the company handled 22.42 million metric tonnes of cargo and served more than 2,277 customers across industries, reporting revenues exceeding Rs 5,000 crore.
