Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has announced an ambitious Cargo City plan aimed at enhancing its logistics infrastructure and solidifying its position as a leading air cargo hub in South Asia.
The proposed Cargo City will integrate state-of-the-art facilities, streamline cargo operations, and cater to the growing demand for efficient freight movement. The project is designed to support a wide range of sectors including e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, perishables, and electronics by offering modern warehousing, automated handling systems, and seamless multimodal connectivity.
The initiative aligns with India’s push to strengthen its supply chain capabilities and reduce turnaround times at key transport hubs. By expanding capacity and improving operational efficiency, Cargo City is expected to significantly boost export and import activity through the Delhi airport.
The plan also includes infrastructure to support temperature-sensitive goods, dedicated zones for express cargo, and digital systems to enhance tracking and transparency.
With this development, IGI Airport aims to attract global logistics players and increase its cargo handling capacity, reinforcing Delhi’s role as a critical node in national and international trade routes.
