The Kerala government is poised to review a critical proposal aimed at granting Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) greater authourity in spearheading port-relaed infrastructure projects, an initiative that could significantly accelerate Kerala’s economic growth through focused port development & expansion. VISL port expansion to propel Kerala's economic growth. During a recent meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Dr A Jayathilak, the Project Implementation Committee explored steps to enhance VISL’s involvement in land infrastructure planning around the Vizhinjam port.

“The current pace of infrastructure development is slow and vital projects like the Outer Ring Road have yet to gain traction,” a senior ports department official said. “We need to treat these not just as roadworks, but as essential pillars of port development & expansion that will support long-term cargo movement and trade efficiency.”

In its 58th board meeting, VISL reaffirmed its commitment to infrastructure that supports port-driven economic growth and formally requested government approval to acquire around 100 acres of land near the port zone. This move is seen as a pivotal step in the broader VISL port expansion strategy that aligns with Kerala’s long-term economic vision.
