Uber has expanded its same-day courier service with the launch of Courier XL, enabling users to send larger packages using three- or four-wheeler vehicles. Previously, the service was limited to two-wheelers and packages under 5 kg.
According to Uber’s app, packages up to 500 kg can now be sent using three-wheelers like the Bajaj Maxima, while packages weighing between 500-750 kg will be handled by four-wheelers such as the Tata Ace. These services are available only for intra-city deliveries.
Initially piloted in Bengaluru, Courier XL has now rolled out in other major cities, including Delhi. The new offering places Uber in direct competition with logistics players like Porter, which also use small commercial vehicles for local deliveries.
The move comes amid growing demand for same-day delivery solutions, driven by the boom in e-commerce. Industry experts suggest Uber could venture into inter-city logistics soon.
Uber previously introduced features like Shop Pick-up, allowing users to purchase items from stores and have them delivered, and a SaaS-based zero-commission model for auto drivers to stay competitive with players like Rapido and Namma Yatri.
Despite leading India’s cab-hailing market with a 50% share, Uber continues to face stiff competition in the two- and three-wheeler segments.
