Titagarh Rail Systems (TRSL) has started exporting traction converters, with the first batch of eight converters going to Titagarh Firema in Italy.
This shipment is part of TRSL's EUR 7.18 million (Rs 65 crore) purchase from Titagarh Firema and marks the first rollout of traction converters from Titagarh's Passenger Rolling Stock Facility in India.
Major order details.
Titagarh Firema received an order from Regione Lazio, Italy, to design, construct, and supply 38 trainsets for roughly EUR 276 million. TRSL will supply the traction converters for these trainsets, which have a design speed of 100 kmph. The converters are intended for the Regione Lazio Viterbo line, which operates at 3 KV, and the Regione Lazio Lido line, which runs at 1.5 KV. TRSL intends to supply two train sets, or eight converters, per month to fulfill the order.
Local production and expertise
Titagarh Firema, its Italian collaborator, provided skilled design work that enabled Titagarh India to successfully indigenize the production of these converters. This relationship has laid a solid foundation for Uttarpara's high-tech manufacturing industry.
The Titagarh India Passenger Rolling Stock Facility currently produces 25 converters per month, with plans to expand to 50 converters per month, including Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) and Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) converters.
"This milestone illustrates Titagarh's commitment to quality and innovation in the railway manufacturing business, and it marks a significant achievement for the company. It demonstrates our unshakable commitment to transforming India into a worldwide manufacturing powerhouse for railway systems, contributing to the objective of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India)," stated Prithish Chowdhary, Dy. Managing Director, TRSL.
Commenting on the breakthrough, Luigi Traettino stated, "It brings us tremendous joy to receive these converters from India. It demonstrates our dedication to improving Indo-Italian relations, for which we are delighted to be flag bearers. We are looking forward to discovering additional synergies for the future of this relationship."
Vijay Subramanian, CEO of Titagarh Firema, shared his thoughts on this milestone, saying, "The Lazio project is an incredibly prestigious project for us, and receiving such crucial items from our colleagues at Titagarh Rail Systems, India gives me a great sense of pleasure. We look forward to continuing to work together to provide high-quality, low-cost systems to all of our clients."
