Road freight decarbonisation will be a battle, say logistics players

Freight forwarders and carriers must actively advocate for decarbonisation, even as many customers remain hesitant to bear the additional costs, Ceva Logistics said during the Path to Decarbonisation webinar hosted by the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

The webinar highlighted that trucks and buses contribute approximately 20% of global transport-related emissions. However, a recent IRU member survey revealed widespread challenges across the decarbonisation journey chief among them being customer resistance to higher prices associated with greener operations.

This reluctance is particularly strong in Australia, where many clients are unwilling to absorb the extra costs tied to low-emission solutions, making the transition to sustainable transport more difficult for operators.

Ceva Logistics emphasized that the logistics industry must collectively “fight” to keep the issue of decarbonisation front and centre, urging customers to understand its long-term value for the planet and the industry.
