Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to inaugurate infrastructure projects worth β‚Ή2,236 crore on October 12, enhancing military mobility along the India-China border. This initiative includes the strategic Kupup-Sherathang road and the virtual inauguration of 74 additional projects spanning regions in Sikkim, West Bengal, Nagaland, and beyond.

These developments are part of India’s ongoing infrastructure push in remote areas, aimed at bolstering logistics support for military forces in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. Singh's visit coincides with China’s sustained infrastructure expansion along the border over the past five years.

During his visit to Sikkim on October 11-12, Singh will also spend Dussehra with frontline soldiers stationed near the contested border. He will address the Army Commanders’ conference in Gangtok, marking the first time this high-level meeting occurs near the China border amid ongoing military tensions.

Singh is set to inaugurate 22 roads, 51 bridges, and two additional projects completed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under challenging conditions. The projects include 19 in Jammu and Kashmir, 11 in Ladakh, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, and several others across the country.

This inauguration will bring the total number of BRO infrastructure projects dedicated to the nation this year to 111, totaling β‚Ή3,751 crore. Recent examples include the Sela tunnel, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March, which significantly enhances military logistics in the Tawang sector.

In recent years, the BRO has completed 450 projects valued at β‚Ή16,000 crore, aimed at improving India's border infrastructure. Despite China's edge in this area, India is making rapid progress to close the gap through focused investments and technological advancements.

The conference in Sikkim will allow senior commanders to assess operational preparedness and develop strategies to enhance military capabilities. The Army has been closely monitoring China's border infrastructure developments, including new airbases and missile sites, to maintain strategic oversight.

As tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) persist, India continues to work on strengthening its military infrastructure and readiness in response to the evolving geopolitical landscape.
