For the first time since 2019, is unlikely to attend the G7 summit, scheduled to take place in Alberta, Canada, from June 15 to 17, 2025. According to official sources, Canada has not extended a formal invitation to India, breaking a six-year pattern of India’s participation as a guest nation. This development may limit India’s voice in key discussions around international trade supply chain resilience and multilateral cooperation.

The expected absence comes amid worsening India-Canada relations, driven by Canada's handling of Khalistani separatist elements, an issue that New Delhi considers a major security threat. This diplomatic rift is now spilling into high-level forums like the G7, potentially impacting collaboration in global trade and supply chain management, where India plays a critical emerging role.

Even if an invitation is issued closer to the summit date, sources suggest that PM Modi may choose not to attend. India remains doubtful of Ottawa’s commitment to addressing its concerns, especially around threats to national sovereignty, which could also affect bilateral progress in international trade and supply chain agreements and EXIM in supply chain coordination.

India has used past G7 summits to push forward agendas on international trade and supply chain management, green energy, and support for developing nations. Modi’s absence from this year’s summit could mark a temporary diplomatic pause, but may also slow India’s momentum in influencing global policy on EXIM in supply chain logistics and trade realignment strategies.
