Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone today for the Rs 76,200 crore Vadhavan port project in Maharashtra, marking the beginning of one of India’s most ambitious maritime infrastructure ventures.

The Vadhavan port, located near Dahanu in the Palghar district, is poised to become a world-class maritime gateway. It will play a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s trade and economic growth by catering to large container vessels, offering deeper drafts, and accommodating ultra-large cargo ships. The port’s strategic location will provide direct connectivity to international shipping routes, significantly reducing transit times and costs.

Designed as one of India’s largest deep-water ports, Vadhavan will feature state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, including deep berths, efficient cargo handling facilities, and modern port management systems. The project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, stimulate local businesses, and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.
The Vadhavan port project prioritizes sustainable development, with a focus on minimizing environmental impact and adhering to stringent ecological standards. Once operational, the port will enhance India’s maritime connectivity and bolster its position as a global trade hub.

In addition to the Vadhavan port, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 218 fisheries projects worth approximately Rs 1,560 crore. These initiatives aim to strengthen infrastructure and productivity within the fisheries sector nationwide and are projected to create over five lakh jobs.

The Prime Minister will also launch the National Rollout of the Vessel Communication and Support System, a Rs 360 crore project involving the phased installation of one lakh transponders on mechanized and motorized fishing vessels across 13 coastal states and Union Territories. Developed by ISRO, this indigenous technology will enable two-way communication at sea, assist in rescue operations, and ensure the safety of fishermen.

Further, PM Modi will inaugurate various other initiatives, including the development of fishing harbors, integrated aquaparks, and the adoption of advanced technologies such as the recirculatory aquaculture system and biofloc. These projects, spread across multiple states, aim to enhance fish production, improve post-harvest management, and create sustainable livelihoods for millions involved in the fisheries sector.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for key fishery infrastructure projects, including the modernization of fishing harbors, fish landing centers, and the construction of fish markets. These developments are expected to provide essential facilities and ensure hygienic conditions for post-harvest management of fish and seafood.
