Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday left for a two-day State visit to Israel following an invitation from his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu.
In his departure remarks, Modi said India and Israel share a “robust and multifaceted Strategic Partnership” that has gained momentum over the past few years overall.
“I look forward to my talks with Prime Minister Netanyahu to further deepen cooperation across key areas such as science and technology, innovation, agriculture, water management, technology, defence and security, trade and investment, along with people-to-people ties,” the statement noted.
The Prime Minister added that the two leaders would also exchange perspectives on regional and global developments of shared interest.
This will mark Modi’s second official visit to Israel.
As per a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, Modi will also pay a call on Israel’s President Isaac Herzog during the visit.
He is set to become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset.
Modi described the moment as “a tribute to the strong parliamentary and democratic links that connect our two nations.”
The MEA said the two prime ministers will assess the progress achieved in the India-Israel strategic partnership and explore new avenues of collaboration in science and technology, innovation, defence and security, agriculture, water management, trade and the economy, as well as people-to-people engagement.
Modi also said he was keen to interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Israel, noting that they have consistently nurtured the unique friendship between the two countries.
“This visit will reaffirm the deep-rooted and enduring strategic partnership between the two nations and offer an opportunity to review shared challenges while aligning efforts to realise their common vision for a strong partnership between two resilient democracies,” the MEA said.
