In a landmark move for India’s supply chain and freight forwarding ambitions, the first freight locomotive manufactured at the Marhowra unit in Bihar will be exported to West Africa next month. Jointly developed by Wabtec Corporation and Indian Railways, this milestone highlights India's emergence in high-value engineering exports and the freight systems supply chain solutions space.

The locomotives, part of Wabtec’s globally acclaimed Evolution Series, are tailored for ocean freight forwarding, built to withstand West Africa’s climate and freight needs. The initial batch will be shipped via Gujarat's Mundra Port, showcasing India's efficient freight handling process at Indian ports. This long-term export deal includes the supply of 100+ fuel-efficient locomotives over four years, bolstering Africa’s rail freight forwarding sector—particularly for iron ore exports.

Established under the 'Make in India' initiative, the Marhowra facility has already delivered over 700 locomotives domestically. The export deal strengthens India's credibility in supply chain management freight forwarding and reflects the country's expanding role in ocean freight forwarding companies as a global manufacturing hub.
As India balances domestic and international deliveries, this strategic move underscores its rising stature in supply chain and freight forwarding innovation and sustainable rail logistics.
