At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Pakistan and China reaffirmed their strong commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, adopting a zero-tolerance stance. They condemned attacks on Chinese personnel in Pakistan and pledged to enhance security and cooperation, particularly regarding significant projects such as the Dasu Hydropower Project and Port Qasim Power Plant.
According to a report by Geo News, both nations expressed their willingness to work with the international community to strengthen multilateral counter-terrorism efforts through established organizations like the United Nations and the SCO. Pakistan specifically condemned recent terrorist attacks targeting Chinese individuals, including the March 26, 2024 attack on the Dasu Hydropower Project and the October 6, 2024 attack on a convoy at Port Qasim. The country is committed to uncovering the truth behind these incidents and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
Pakistan emphasized its dedication to improving security measures and coordination to safeguard Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions within its borders. Notably, the Dasu attack in Bisham City, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulted in the deaths of five Chinese engineers and one Pakistani citizen. The attack involved a suicide bomber who crashed an explosive-laden vehicle into a bus carrying the victims, causing it to plunge into a 300-foot-deep ditch on the Karakoram Highway.
