The Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) is planning a massive ₹8,000 crore outer harbor project, aimed at significantly enhancing the port’s cargo handling capacity and positioning it as a leading maritime hub on the East Coast, according to Sunil Paliwal, Chairperson of ChPA.

Speaking at the 6th Southern Regional Shipping Conclave, jointly organized by The Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and the Association of Multi-modal Transport Operators of India (AMTOI), Paliwal revealed that a techno-feasibility study will soon be initiated to assess and guide the project's development. Paliwal also provided an update on the Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) coming up at Mappedu, stating that the first phase of the country’s first greenfield MMLP is expected to be operational by mid-April 2026. The park is designed to integrate road, rail, and port connectivity, reducing freight costs and improving logistics efficiency.
