Maersk has launched its first own-licensed bonded warehouse in Vietnam, located at SLP Park, Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park, Hai Phong province. Operated by Maersk Contract Logistics, this facility marks a significant step in Maersk’s growth in Northern Vietnam, responding to the increasing demand for import and export services from local businesses.
The grand opening was attended by Mr. Lasse Pedersen Hjortshøj, the Commercial Counsellor of the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, reflecting strong international support for fostering business growth in the region.
Strategically positioned near the Hai Phong seaport, the new warehouse is located along the key logistics corridor of Northern Vietnam. This prime location allows Maersk to better integrate its services, linking the warehouse with its existing fulfillment center in Hai Phong and the upcoming terminal at Lach Huyen Port. This development is a joint venture between APM Terminals and Hateco, enhancing Maersk’s storage and logistics capabilities to improve supply chain efficiency for its customers.
The bonded warehouse provides clients with greater flexibility by allowing goods to be imported and exported without incurring duties, resulting in reduced costs and streamlined operations. This new setup is designed to improve inventory management and ensure faster delivery times, all while remaining fully compliant with customs regulations.
The facility is equipped with advanced technology for seamless and secure operations, including a modern racking system, automated sorting processes, inventory control, and an accurate barcode system. Additionally, the warehouse is designed with energy efficiency in mind, utilizing natural lighting through skylight panels, energy-saving LED lights, and motion sensors in office and public areas to reduce energy consumption.
Amazon Vietnam, a cross-border e-commerce provider, is the first customer to utilize the new facility, with operations set to begin in October. Maersk Contract Logistics will support Amazon with bonded warehousing, domestic fulfillment, customs procedures, and inland transportation.
Kevin Burrell, Area Managing Director of Maersk Mekong (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar), expressed the company’s commitment to delivering optimal logistics solutions. He emphasized that managing its own bonded warehouse allows Maersk to synchronize processes, improve service quality, and enhance cost control.
Chris Ji, Senior Manager of GXD Origin Operations at Amazon, highlighted the importance of this new partnership, which will support the growth of e-commerce and logistics services in the region.
Maersk has partnered with SLP, a leading developer of industrial and logistics infrastructure in Southeast Asia, to establish this state-of-the-art warehouse. Edwin Chee, Chief Operating Officer at SLP, spoke about their shared commitment to providing top-tier logistics solutions, aiming to set new industry standards and foster regional economic development.
Vietnam continues to strengthen its position as a logistics hub in Southeast Asia, with rapid growth in manufacturing, import-export activities, and foreign direct investment. Through this strategic expansion, Maersk aims to capitalize on new opportunities, helping its customers and partners thrive in the competitive global market.
