August will bring in a wave of new laws, particularly those concerning FASTags. This system, which is critical for simplifying toll payments and reducing traffic congestion at toll plazas, is undergoing considerable adjustments. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued new rules that emphasize Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.

Effective August 1, companies providing FASTag services must complete KYC for all FASTags granted three to five years ago by October 31. Customers must update their KYC within this timeframe to avoid service delays.

To comply with NPCI requirements, vehicle owners must promptly replace FAS tags that are more than five years old. It is important to check the issuing date of their tags.

These updates are especially crucial for drivers of older automobiles. From August 1 to October 31, companies must:
Update the KYC for FASTags that are older than three to five years.
Replace FAS tags that are older than five years.

Missing these dates could result in major difficulties, so staying on top of these changes is critical.

Additionally, from August 1, all FAS tags must be connected to the vehicle's registration and chassis numbers. New car owners must update their registration number within 90 days of purchase. FASTag suppliers must regularly evaluate and update their databases to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.

Providers must supply good images of the vehicle's front and side for easy identification with the FASTag. Connecting each FASTag to a cellphone number ensures seamless communication and updates.

The deadline for fulfilling all KYC procedures is October 31, 2024. Prompt action is recommended, as waiting until the last minute may cause unexpected complications.
