In a historic move, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, approved the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to create an export-import/domestic agricultural commodity-based processing and storage facility. This is going to be the first state-of-the-art facility in India, developed at JNPA.

We are building a domestic agricultural commodity-based processing and storage facility in keeping with the ministry's theme of "port-led development" and JNPA's efforts toward "port led industrialization."
The principal aim of the project is to reduce food waste resulting from repeated handling and improper storage while prolonging the shelf life of various produce items. Our goal of developing a whole port environment is in line with this endeavor.

Unmesh Sharad Wagh (IRS), Chairman of JNPA

The building, which occupies a large 27 area, offers a variety of services, such as processing, sorting, packing, and lab space. The facility, which prioritizes adherence to food safety and trade standards, will handle agricultural goods from several states, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

The infrastructure for exports comprises:

Cold storage: maintaining ideal temperature control to protect the freshness and quality of products.

Pre-cooling Facilities: Setting up perishable items for transportation while preserving their integrity at all times.

· Frozen Storage: Suitable for products that need to be stored at a deep freeze in order to maintain their nutritional content, flavor, and texture.

Dry warehouses: offer safe storage options that protect non-perishable items from the elements.

The facility offers dry warehouses and specialized frozen and cold storage alternatives for imports, mirroring these capabilities and guaranteeing smooth handling and storage solutions for goods that are imported.

Estimated to cost INR 285 crores, the project will be carried out using the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model and in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) form.

This project demonstrates the JNPA's consistent commitment to sustainability and strengthening India's standing in the global agricultural environment. This facility aims to promote port-led industrialization, build a strong port ecosystem, decrease waste, improve storage conditions, and increase product shelf life.
