The Indian Navy’s indigenously designed and built Survey Vessel Large, INS Sandhayak, made its maiden port call at Port Klang, Malaysia, from July 16 to 19, to advance hydrographic cooperation, according to an official release on Sunday.
The visit marks a significant step in India’s expanding role in regional hydrographic capacity building, undertaken by the Indian Naval Hydrographic Department and aligned with the National Hydrographic office framework.
Commissioned in February 2024, INS Sandhayak is equipped for comprehensive coastal and deep-water surveys, oceanographic data collection, and is capable of conducting search and rescue (SAR) and humanitarian assistance operations. The ship also houses a helicopter and onboard medical facilities, enhancing its operational versatility.
The stopover at Port Klang aimed to facilitate technical exchanges, promote institutional partnerships, and enable collaboration in survey technology and sustained hydrographic support.
During the visit, key activities included knowledge-sharing sessions, official receptions, and events geared toward fostering international goodwill. These efforts also served to amplify the vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), which underscores India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation and security.
