A new survey by Black Book Research reveals alarming concerns among healthcare industry leaders over the impact of Trump’s tariffs on medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare IT. With 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and 10% tariffs on China, experts warn of rising costs, supply chain disruptions, and affordability challenges for hospitals, physicians, payers, and patients.

1. Medical Equipment & Pharmaceutical Costs Set to Skyrocket

82% of hospital executives predict costs will increase by 15% within six months.
69% of experts expect pharmaceutical prices to rise by at least 10% due to tariffs on active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from China.

2. Supply Chain Disruptions Threaten Healthcare Operations

90% of supply chain professionals foresee major procurement challenges and pricing volatility.
81% of medical equipment manufacturers anticipate longer lead times and supply shortages.

3. Hospitals & Physicians to Pass Costs to Patients

90% of hospital finance executives say patients and insurers will bear the cost burden through higher service charges.
94% of administrators will reduce procurement volumes or delay equipment upgrades to offset financial strain.

4. Rising Insurance Premiums & Higher Out-of-Pocket Costs

84% of payers expect increased claims costs due to higher drug and treatment prices.
48% of payer executives predict insurance premiums will rise within 12 months due to supply chain inflation.

27% of industry leaders are looking at domestic or alternative international suppliers.However, 92% of pharmaceutical manufacturers warn that supplier changes could cause regulatory delays and medication shortages.

39% of healthcare IT executives anticipate higher costs for software, cloud computing, and IT services.
91% of provider IT leaders predict delays in digital transformation projects due to shifting budget priorities.
16% of healthcare IT vendors warn of higher costs for critical hardware like servers and networking equipment.
