In a major boost to India’s freight forwarding sector and multimodal logistics infrastructure, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday inaugurated the country's largest Gati Shakti Multi-Modal cargo terminal in Manesar, Haryana.

Developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gati Shakti National Master Plan, this state-of-the-art terminal is expected to transform freight systems and supply chain solutions across northern India, significantly enhancing cargo movement efficiency and reducing logistics costs.

Constructed at a cost of ₹117,091 million, the terminal is a collaborative venture between the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (HRIDC), which holds a 55.4% stake, the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) with 19%, and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) with 5%.

The terminal will be a strategic asset for ocean freight forwarding companies, inland logistics players, and major exporters, streamlining the freight handling process at Indian ports and land-based logistics hubs alike.

Praising the Gati Shakti initiative, Minister Vaishnaw said, “In just 11 years, the annual railway budget has risen from ₹25,000 crore to ₹2.5 lakh crore. Haryana’s allocation alone jumped from ₹315 crore before 2014 to over ₹3,400 crore.” This rapid investment reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening supply chain and freight forwarding infrastructure nationwide.

He was joined at the event by Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi, highlighting the growing private sector interest in multimodal logistics and supply chain management freight forwarding innovations.
