Govt working to ease logistics regulations to boost investment, growth

The Indian government is actively working to reduce regulatory hurdles in the logistics sector to improve the ease of doing business and attract greater investment, a senior official said on Thursday.

Speaking at an industry event, Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance data accessibility for private stakeholders through the PM Gati Shakti platform. “We are working to further reduce the regulatory issues in the logistics sector to enhance ease of doing business and attract more investments,” he stated.

Kumar noted that India’s vast and diverse geography presents unique challenges, making efficient logistics critical for both emergency services and business operations. “You can get groceries delivered in 10 minutes, but not reach a hospital in that time,” he remarked, highlighting the urgent need for improved infrastructure.

He also stressed that achieving the government’s logistics targets will require active collaboration between the public and private sectors. “The government alone cannot do it. Industry stakeholders must come forward,” Kumar added.

Also speaking at the event, Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) Chairperson Anita Praveen pointed to significant progress in streamlining warehouse licensing. “The licensing process is being simplified and accelerated to enable quicker approvals and promote ease of doing business,” she said.

These efforts align with broader national policies, including the PM Gati Shakti initiative and the National Logistics Policy, aimed at making India a more competitive and investment-friendly destination.
