Marking another significant achievement in its freight operations, the recently formed Jammu Railway Division has successfully transported 46 tonnes of paper from Kathua to Assam, further boosting its freight income and regional economy.
According to Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) of the Jammu Railway Division under Northern Railway, a BCN wagon carrying 627 paper bundles and 24 paper rolls was loaded at Kathua railway station on July 23. The consignment was dispatched to Ajara railway station of Rangiya Division in Guwahati, Assam.
“This is a historic milestone for the Jammu Division. The transportation of 46 tonnes of paper has generated approximately ₹1.3 lakh in freight revenue,” said Singhal. “This initiative is set to benefit small, medium, and large-scale manufacturers in Jammu and Kashmir by boosting regional trade and economic activity.”
The division, under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar and Senior DCM Uchit Singhal, has been proactive in developing both passenger safety and freight transport since its inception. A notable earlier success was the transportation of cherries from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Bandra Terminus in Mumbai on May 31, 2025, using train number 12472, branded as “Parcel One.”
“The cherry cargo initiative ensured timely delivery for fruit producers and opened a new revenue stream for the division,” Singhal said. “Transporting paper is a forward step in continuing this momentum.”
He emphasized that the division is actively engaging with the business community to promote goods transportation. Regular meetings are being held to encourage traders to use the railway network, aiming to expand freight capacity and improve logistics infrastructure.
“This freight initiative will not only enhance the railway’s earnings and support the state's economy but also create new employment opportunities for local residents,” Singhal added.
The Jammu Division continues to position itself as a key logistics hub, enabling smoother movement of goods across the country while contributing to the region’s economic development.
