The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to launch South Asia’s first metro-enabled logistics service, aimed at improving urban cargo transportation efficiency. This innovative service will allow goods to be transported via the metro network, offering a faster, more sustainable alternative to traditional road freight, which often faces congestion and delays in urban areas.
The service will primarily focus on transporting goods such as e-commerce parcels, perishable items, and light cargo, providing a reliable and environmentally friendly solution for businesses operating in India’s growing urban centers. The metro-enabled logistics system will leverage the extensive and well-developed metro network in Delhi, reducing road traffic and minimizing carbon emissions associated with transportation.
The initiative is part of DMRC’s efforts to enhance its role in urban logistics and contribute to India's broader goals of reducing pollution and improving urban mobility. If successful, it could be expanded to other cities, positioning India as a leader in metro-based logistics innovation in the region.
