Amid ongoing uncertainty over U.S. tariffs, India’s Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) is initiating a comprehensive study to revamp the logistics value chain of the pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors. According to a recent notification, the DoP will appoint a designated agency to conduct the study and formulate a detailed logistics plan aimed at strengthening India’s position as a global pharma and med-tech hub.
The study will evaluate the current state of infrastructure, logistics practices, policies, and regulatory frameworks across the sectors. It will also propose actionable interventions for the DoP and related ministries to enhance supply chain efficiency and support long-term industry growth.
The initiative aims to map the entire pharma and medical devices logistics ecosystem—from raw material procurement to last-mile delivery. The study will also break down logistics costs, highlight the most expensive and inefficient components, and identify operational bottlenecks that hinder competitiveness.
This move comes at a critical time as India’s pharma sector seeks to increase resilience and efficiency amid shifting global trade dynamics and rising pressure on drug pricing.
