The commissioning of the Hindupur plant forms part of a wider brownfield expansion strategy that Berger Paints has been pursuing across its existing manufacturing footprint, strengthening its ability to serve a fast-evolving coatings market while navigating input cost volatility. In-house resin manufacturing gives the company tighter control over a critical feedstock, reducing reliance on external suppliers and improving quality consistency—key considerations for builders, specifiers and developers seeking durable, high-performance finishes.

The move comes at a time when India’s paints and coatings industry is facing heightened competition and shifting demand dynamics. Domestic capacity is being ramped up not only for decorative paints but also for industrial coatings and construction chemicals, driven by housing expansion, sustained infrastructure investment and ongoing renovation activity across urban and peri-urban markets. By integrating resin production within its supply chain, Berger Paints is aligning operational capabilities with these structurally expanding segments, signalling confidence in medium- to long-term urban and construction growth.

Industry analysts point out that localising resin production can help stabilise input costs and shorten lead times, particularly for southern and central Indian markets. For developers and contractors, this translates into more reliable material availability and greater pricing predictability—both crucial for project scheduling and cost management. Urban planning experts also note that resilient industrial supply chains underpin sustainable infrastructure delivery, especially in high-growth regions where demand for quality paints and coatings tracks broader urbanisation trends.

At the same time, the expansion carries execution challenges. Integrating new automated operations requires careful alignment of workforce skills and logistics networks with existing production lines. Achieving optimal utilisation at the Hindupur facility will hinge on synchronising supply chains and distribution systems across multiple regional markets, spanning Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and other key demand centres.

Berger Paints’ Hindupur expansion is part of a multi-year industrial growth roadmap that includes additional plants and capacity upgrades. As the company expands its manufacturing base, it also faces growing expectations to embed sustainability into operations, covering areas such as energy efficiency, waste management and emission controls. For sustainable urban development and environmentally responsible construction, aligning capacity expansion with low-carbon manufacturing practices will be increasingly important.

Looking ahead, Berger Paints’ ability to combine automated, resilient production platforms with agile supply chain strategies will play a defining role in how decorative and industrial coatings support India’s evolving urban infrastructure requirements.
