AD Ports Group, an Abu Dhabi-based facilitator of global trade, logistics and industry, has signed a foundation agreement with Semurg Invest to construct a greenfield grain terminal at Kuryk Port Development in Kazakhstan.

The partnership will operate under the name Kazakhstan Grain Terminal by AD Ports holding a 51% stake and Semurg Invest owning the remaining 49%.

The project will see an investment of more than US$50m across two phases, with AD Ports Group contributing approximately US$30m.

Once the first phase is completed in late 2026, the terminal will have an annual handling capacity of 570,000 tonnes of grain cargo, which will increase to 1.5 million tonnes upon completion of the second phase.

The terminal is positioned along the Transcaspian International Transport Route, connecting Kazakhstan to Europe through a network of sea and dry ports in Central Asia. It aims to facilitate global food trade and contribute to food security.

“Our partnership with Semurg is a key milestone in AD Ports Group’s Middle Corridor strategy,” said Abdulaziz Zayed Al-Shamsi, regional CEO of AD Ports Group.

“This investment reinforces our commitment to global food security while strengthening our presence in Central Asia, particularly in Kazakhstan.”

Nurzhan Marabayev, general director of Semurg Invest, added: “This collaboration supports the government of Kazakhstan’s roadmap for enhancing the export and transit potential of the Transcaspian route and further developing the Mangystau region’s economy.”
