Sarbananda Sonowal has approved a ₹472 crore project for the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) along with supporting infrastructure at Tuna-Tekra, part of Deendayal Port in Gujarat.

The project includes key civil works such as viaduct structures, a bridge over a creek, and provisions for long-term maintenance over a 10-year period to ensure durability and operational efficiency.

The proposal had earlier been reviewed by the Delegated Investment Board during a meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, before receiving final approval.

The ROB is strategically planned to act as a crucial connectivity link for the upcoming Mega Container Terminal at Tuna-Tekra, which is designed to handle 2.19 million TEUs, along with a Multipurpose Cargo Berth with a capacity of 18.33 MMTPA.

This infrastructure development is expected to facilitate seamless cargo movement and reduce potential bottlenecks between rail and road transport networks, thereby improving overall logistics efficiency at the port.

The execution timeline of the project is aligned with the commissioning of the Tuna-Tekra Container Terminal, which has currently achieved around 45% physical progress.

The project is seen as a key step toward strengthening port connectivity and enhancing supply chain efficiency, particularly in western India’s maritime logistics ecosystem.
