Suffolk County Council has issued a public warning after a fraudulent Facebook advert falsely claimed that cruise holidays were departing from Felixstowe Port, a known container terminal, not a passenger port.
The scam post, which has since been removed, reportedly directed users to a suspicious website designed to harvest personal and financial information. The trading standards department flagged the post as a scam and urged the public to remain cautious of such misleading offers.
“Many residents of Suffolk and surrounding areas know that Felixstowe is a container port, not a departure points for passenger cruises,” the council wrote on its official Facebook page.
The council also shared key online scam awareness tips, advising users to always verify the legitimacy of travel deals and avoid sharing sensitive details on unfamiliar websites. Authorities are encouraging residents to report any similar scams they encounter.
