Global logistics automation specialist Vanderlande has inaugurated its India Innovation Centre in Pune, underscoring its commitment to strengthening technology development and customer support across the Asia-Pacific region. The new facility is set to serve as a key hub for research, software development and testing focused on automation solutions for airport baggage handling, parcel logistics and warehouse operations.

Located in Pune, the centre will draw on local engineering talent to adapt automation technologies to the specific needs of customers in India and surrounding markets. Vanderlande said the India Innovation Centre will focus on building software applications, control systems and integration frameworks designed to improve operational performance, throughput and system reliability for users of automated logistics solutions.

The Pune facility will play a role in product customisation, validation and lifecycle services, including control software testing and system simulations. This is expected to enable quicker deployment cycles and more responsive support for customers operating in sectors such as aviation, e-commerce and third-party logistics. The company added that the centre will also support training and knowledge transfer, helping local teams and partners develop the skills required for next-generation automated operations.

Vanderlande said the move into India aligns with broader industry trends, as logistics and supply chain operators increasingly turn to automation to manage rising volumes, workforce challenges and growing service expectations. In the airport sector, automated baggage handling and passenger processing systems have become essential to coping with increasing travel demand. At the same time, parcel and warehouse automation has gained momentum following the rapid expansion of e-commerce, where speed, accuracy and scalability are critical performance factors.

Company executives said the India Innovation Centre will work closely with regional customers, technology partners and academic institutions to drive innovation and address specific local requirements. By combining global best practices with insights from local projects, Vanderlande aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced automation solutions while contributing to skills development within the domestic engineering ecosystem.

The company also noted that the Pune centre complements its existing global network of development and support facilities, strengthening its ability to deliver end-to-end solutions and long-term technical support across regions. As logistics automation continues to be viewed as a strategic business enabler, Vanderlande’s investment in the India Innovation Centre is expected to deepen engagement with key industries and support growth across the logistics and transport sectors.

The launch of the centre highlights Vanderlande’s confidence in India’s engineering talent and its potential to serve as a global base for innovation in automation technologies designed to address complex operational challenges worldwide.
