Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the upcoming Vadhavan Port as a “game changer,” emphasizing its strategic importance in boosting connectivity and economic development across the state.
Speaking at the Maharashtra Maritime Summit held in Mumbai, Fadnavis highlighted that the port will be linked to 24 districts through the Samruddhi Mahamarg and other access roads, significantly enhancing logistics and trade efficiency. He also announced that the port will feature on offshore airport to expedite cargo movement.
The summit began with Nitesh Rane, Minister for Ports and Fisheries, presenting his vision and roadmap for developing Maharashtra’s port infrastructure. Rane emphasized the importance of skilling the youth to prepare them for employment opportunities that the growing maritime sector will generate.
“The formation of the Maritime Acceleration Task Force will help push forward key initiatives and project,” Rane said during his address.
Throughout the event, experts from the maritime industry participated in panel discussions covering a range of topics, including:
• The potential of shipbuilding and ship-breaking industries in Maharashtra
• Implementation of the state’s maritime policy
• Expanding the use of inland waterways for water transport
The summit served as a platform to debate and shape the future of Maharashtra’s maritime sector, with Vadhavan Port positioned as a critical anchor for long-term growth and regional integration.
