Swiggy, on the brink of its initial public offering (IPO), has announced the appointment of Amitesh Jha as the new Chief Executive Officer of its fast-growing quick commerce division, Swiggy Instamart, effective from September 4. Jha, a seasoned e-commerce expert, brings over 20 years of experience in leading categories, operations, strategy, and product development for some of India's most prominent companies. Phani Kishan, Swiggy’s co-founder and the current CEO of Swiggy Instamart, will transition to a broader role within the organization. He will oversee Swiggy’s Central Growth unit and work closely with Swiggy Group CEO Sriharsha Majety, the company announced in a statement. "Amitesh Jha joins us from Flipkart, where he has a stellar track record spanning 14 years. His extensive experience includes managing key categories such as smartphones, general merchandise, fashion, and large appliances, as well as overseeing logistics operations," said Sriharsha Majety, CEO of Swiggy. Commenting on his new role, Jha expressed his excitement, saying, "I firmly believe that the consumer internet industry in India is on the cusp of transformative disruption. Swiggy, with its innovation-driven culture, strong customer focus, and trusted brand, is well-positioned to lead the way in redefining customer behavior and setting new industry benchmarks." Before joining Swiggy Instamart, Jha played a pivotal role at Flipkart, where he was instrumental in making e-commerce mainstream in India. He joined Flipkart during its early stages, particularly in the electronics segment, and contributed significantly to the company’s growth through industry-first practices. As the head of Flipkart’s supply chain, he scaled operations and drove growth, ultimately leading the company’s long-term growth strategies. Jha is a Chemical Engineering graduate from IIT Delhi and holds an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.
