SEIL joins forces with VPL and HTPL to explore cargo terminal and logistics park. Steel Exchange India Limited (SEIL), a prominent integrated steel producer in South India and owner of the SIMHADRI TMT brand, has signed a non-binding strategic collaboration agreement and Vizag Profiles Logistics Pvt. Ltd. and Hind Terminal Pvt. Ltd. The agreement outlines plan to explore the development of a General Cargo Terminal and a Multi Modal Logistics Park in Visakhapatnam.
The proposed collaboration is aimed at enhancing cargo movement along coastal and inland corridors by combining the operational strengths of the three companies. Key areas of focus include operating container trains from the proposed GCT, deploying domestic barges and containers for coastal shipping, and expanding rail-based transport for steel and general cargo. The partners also intend to evaluate the development of comprehensive, end-to-end multimodal logistics solutions. Together, the trio aims to increase logistics efficiency, reduce transit times, and offer scalable solutions for cargo handling in the Visakhapatnam region.
While the current agreement is non-binding, it paves the way for detailed feasibility studies, pilot initiatives, and potential long-term commercial partnerships. For SEIL, this marks a strategic shift beyond steel manufacturing into the logistics domain unlocking new value streams and reinforcing the company’s supply chain competitiveness.
