Gautam Adani takes on global giants with freight forwarding play

Gautam Adani-led Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has made a bold foray into the global freight forwarding business, marking a major milestone in port logistics in supply chain evolution. Leveraging its 45.5% share in India’s container traffic and access to key air cargo terminals, APSEZ is now poised to challenge global logistics leaders like DHL, Maersk, and CMA CGM.

 
This move, spearheaded by Akshyat Bhatia former Maersk executive and now VP of Logistics at APSEZ quietly launched in Q4 of FY25. Under his leadership, the company has seen a 39% YoY surge in logistics revenue and introduced two key innovations: the Trucking Management Solution (TMS) and the International Freight Network (IFN). These platforms are reshaping shipping ports and freight handling by digitally connecting carriers, customers, and last-mile logistics.

 
Amid rising concerns over India port congestion, APSEZ’s integrated approach is a timely response to streamline freight operations and reduce inefficiencies. By expanding into freight forwarding and digitized logistics, APSEZ is solidifying its role in the smart port and supply chain ecosystem, advancing India’s position in global trade and transportation.
