Significantly, Carsten (b) Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. have awarded a USD 54 million contract to state-owned Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the building of four multipurpose boats with a combined DWT of 7,500.
With the potential to build four more ships in the near future, the company has an arrangement with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co., KG Germany for the multipurpose vessels.
The vessels will have a maximum draft of 6.75 metres and dimensions of 120 metres by 17 metres. 7,500 metric tonnes of goods may be carried by each of them, according to a statement from the company .
Each of the ships will have a single cargo hold that can store project, general, and bulk cargo. Hatch coverings will be used to transport containers. It stated that the ships are specifically built to accommodate several enormous windmill blades on deck.
In the august presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, GRSE, the agreement was signed between GRSE and Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co., represented by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding), and Carsten Thomas Rehder, Managing Director, respectively.
When it comes to the export of warships, GRSE was a pioneer. In addition, the shipyard is currently constructing a TSH dredger and six patrol boats for the Bangladeshi government. The Cooperative Republic of Guyana received the passenger/cargo oceangoing ferry MV Ma Lisha from GRSE in 2023. Right now, it's the biggest and most sophisticated boat in that nation.
Recall that within the next ten years, India is expected to rank as the world's fifth-largest shipbuilding and ship repair hub, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
