Finnair partners with CN Logistics to cut air cargo emissions with SAF. Finnair has announced a new partnership with Hong-Kong based CN Logistics International Holding, a subsidiary of DP World to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel in air cargo operations. The collaboration marks a key step towards reducing scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, with CN Logistics co-funding a batch of SAF to offset emissions linked to its shipments. The initiatives align with both companies’ broader climate goals and underscores the growing role of SAF in decarbonizing the logistics and aviation industries. For Finnair, the partnership supports its Science Based Targets Initiative validated goal to reduce carbon emission s intensity by 34.5% by 2033, using 2023 as the baseline year. The airline ultimately aims to reach net zero emission by 2050.
Beyond fuel efficiency, Finnair continues to reduce aircraft weight and explore emerging technologies to further cut emissions. Sustainability is also embedded in Finnair’s cargo infrastructure. The COOL Nordic Cargo Hub at Helsinki Airport certified by BREEAM features nearly 3,000 solar panels that supply 37% of the terminal’s energy. Automated warehousing, guided truck systems, and advanced waste management help minimize environmental impact.
In parallel, Finnair has committed to circular economy practices, aiming for 100% material management at its Helsinki hub, ensuring that all waste is either reused or converted into energy, heat, biogas, manure, or material avoiding landfills entirely. The airline is also phasing out single-use plastics and expanding recycling of cargo materials such as packaging, nets, and straps. For CN Logistics, the partnership is part of its CNL Green Solution framework, which outlines the company’s path to carbon neutrality through sustainable logistics initiatives.
