NEW DELHI: The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is expanding India's rail-based parcel logistics network through its Joint Parcel Product – Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS). The service provides businesses with a scheduled transportation option for parcels, e-commerce shipments and other time-sensitive cargo.
Operating on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), JPP-RCS connects New Dadri in Uttar Pradesh with New Motidau and New Ancheli in Gujarat. The route covers approximately 1,200 km in one direction, with a scheduled transit time of around 23 hours. Daily operations are intended to strengthen links between major logistics centres in northern and western India and meet rising demand for efficient parcel transportation.
Connecting Businesses to Faster Logistics Solutions
JPP-RCS is designed to serve a wide range of customers, including e-commerce companies, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) businesses, retailers, courier operators, logistics aggregators, manufacturers, traders and bulk parcel customers.
The service gives businesses a scheduled rail transport option with predictable transit times, helping them plan shipments and distribution more effectively. By moving time-sensitive consignments over long distances, it can support stronger distribution networks and better coordination across supply-chain operations.
New Motidau functions as an intermediate loading and unloading point, offering additional flexibility to cargo operators and businesses transporting shipments between regional markets.
Integrated Rail-and-Road Connectivity
A key feature of JPP-RCS is its combination of long-distance rail transport with road-based first-mile and last-mile delivery. Cargo can be collected from customers, consolidated for rail transportation and then delivered to its final destination through logistics service providers and aggregators.
This integrated model can simplify cargo movement, reduce handling complexities and give businesses another option for managing time-sensitive shipments. It also offers scope to extend parcel connectivity beyond the Ahmedabad region, with onward transportation networks linking shipments to destinations such as Surat and Mumbai.
Digital Booking and Improved Shipment Planning
JPP-RCS uses a digital booking facility available through the Virtual Aggregation Platform (VAP) under the Freight Business Development (FBD) portal. The platform enables parcel-space bookings and helps logistics aggregators organise their transportation requirements more efficiently.
Digital booking access, together with potential shipment-tracking capabilities and integration with logistics partners, can improve visibility and coordination throughout the cargo transportation process.
Advancing Efficient and Sustainable Freight Transportation
The launch of JPP-RCS reflects DFCCIL's wider efforts to make greater use of dedicated freight infrastructure beyond conventional bulk cargo and develop services that respond to customer requirements.
Moving suitable long-distance parcel shipments from road to rail can improve transport efficiency, ease pressure on road networks and support more sustainable logistics operations. Combining dedicated rail services with road-based distribution also creates opportunities for a more connected, multimodal freight system.
With daily services, scheduled transit times and connections across key logistics centres in northern and western India, JPP-RCS marks a further step in the development of rail-based parcel transportation.
Through initiatives such as this, DFCCIL aims to improve the use of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, create opportunities for logistics stakeholders and support a faster, more reliable and efficient supply-chain network.
