Chennai Port opens a sustainable railway goods shed to improve logistics

Delhi Port extended state-of-the-art goods railway shed via Jolarpet railway station connectivity to enhance logistics. The project is aimed at reducing traffic in Delhi and promoting eco-friendliness.

The latest project of Chennai Port Authority, which cost ₹6.71 crores, was built on the basis of revenue sharing with Southern Railway. Goods-sheds are thus committed to the environmental sustainability of green logistics programmes and provide seamless, integrated trunk/container movements.

The “TVS Go Green Express” container train was flagged off by Chennai Port Authority along with the Indian Railways and Container Corporation (CONCOR). This train flagged off and welcomed at Ennore Port Rail Siding has marked a significant milestone in environment-friendly transportation.

29 FEUs of automobile goods, each weighing 20 MT, were carried by train to 58 TEUs. Such consignments will be going to African countries and depict the strengthened connectivity between Chennai Ports with the major areas of Bangalore, Mysore, and Northern Tamil Nadu. Ports Operations get more efficient and trade improved in a quicker time.

Multi-modal transport reduces bottlenecks through rail and road logistics. At the same time, it offers viable alternatives. These initiatives help the region grow economically and also showcase the quality of innovation and ecological responsibility that Chennai Port Authority represents.
