Breaking: Chartered Aircraft Carrying Ajit Pawar Involved in Incident During Landing at Baramati

A chartered aircraft carrying NCP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was involved in a serious incident on Wednesday morning while attempting to land at Baramati airport in Maharashtra. The aircraft encountered trouble during landing, prompting emergency response measures at the airport.

The plane, operated as a privately chartered flight, had five people on board, including Pawar, two pilots and two security personnel. Visuals from the site showed extensive damage to the aircraft, with debris scattered across the area and thick smoke rising from the spot, indicating the severity of the incident.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

1. Ajit Pawar was travelling to Baramati to attend multiple public engagements ahead of the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections when the aircraft, a Learjet 45 chartered from Mumbai, reported difficulties during landing.

2. Initial visuals from Baramati airport showed the aircraft heavily damaged, with parts of the fuselage shattered and debris spread across the runway area. Fire and smoke were seen at the site shortly after the incident.

3. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that an incident involving a chartered aircraft occurred during landing at Baramati airport and said further details are being verified.

• The incident took place as the aircraft was attempting to land. However, there has been no official confirmation yet from Pawar’s office or state authorities regarding the condition of those on board. Emergency teams were immediately rushed to the location.

• The exact cause of the incident and the condition of the 66-year-old leader and other occupants are yet to be officially ascertained.

• Pawar had attended a Cabinet meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday and was en route to Baramati for a series of meetings linked to the forthcoming civic elections in Pune district.

• Following news of the incident, Baramati MP and Pawar’s cousin Supriya Sule left for Maharashtra from Delhi, where she was scheduled to attend the Parliament Budget session. Pawar’s family members also departed for Baramati.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take stock of the situation and were briefed on the developments surrounding the Baramati aircraft incident.
