The trailer and taurus owners associations operating at Chennai Port have decided to defer their planned strike, which was set to begin at 6 AM today. The protest was in response to the proposed βΉ550 fee for using the newly developed Chennai Port Parking Plaza (CPPP), scheduled to be operational from April 10.
In separate statements, both the All India Container Trailer Association and the All Sea Ports Trailer Owners Association confirmed the suspension of the strike. However, they reiterated their opposition to the parking charge and indicated that protests against the fee would continue.
The Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) had announced the launch of the CPPP on March 29. The facility is intended to streamline port operations by providing dedicated parking and essential amenities for trailer drivers, including restrooms, a canteen, and dormitory accommodations.
