During a public address in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke directly to citizens about the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its ripple effects on global energy supply networks. The Prime Minister emphasized his government's unwavering commitment to an 'India First' approach when navigating international crises.
Speaking to a gathering in the southern state, Modi reassured the public that his administration would continue prioritizing Indian interests above all else, regardless of external challenges. He called on citizens to remain calm and vigilant against misinformation during these uncertain times.
"Today, I'd like to speak to the people of Tamil Nadu about the conflict in West Asia. It has affected the whole world's energy supply chain. We believe in the ideology of India First," the Prime Minister stated during his address.
He continued by highlighting his government's track record of protecting Indian citizens during times of crisis. "In any situation, we have seen how our government always puts the interests of Indians above everything. Even in these times, our approach will be the same. There is no need to panic or pay attention to rumours. I'd like to appeal to the people, let's only spread only correct and verified information," Modi added.
Drawing parallels to the COVID-19 pandemic response, the Prime Minister praised the maturity demonstrated by Indian citizens during the global health crisis. He noted that 100 crore Indians showed the world the nation's resilience and collective strength during unprecedented challenges.
"I am confident that as a nation, we will navigate every situation successfully," Modi declared with conviction.
Earlier in the day, while addressing supporters at a rally in Ernakulum, Kerala, the Prime Minister addressed growing concerns about the safety of millions of Indian workers employed across West Asian nations. He emphasized that the current government's philosophy stands in stark contrast to past administrations.
"It's natural for all of you to be concerned about what's happening in West Asia today. Millions of our brothers and sisters work there. But you must remember that the BJP-NDA government is in power today. Whenever any of our countrymen has been in trouble, we have used all our strength to protect them. Today's India doesn't leave its people in trouble. We are providing security all facilities to Indians stuck in the war," he explained to the crowd.
Modi expressed his appreciation for the cooperation received from Gulf nations in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Indian nationals residing in conflict-affected areas. He detailed the round-the-clock efforts being undertaken by Indian diplomatic missions across the region.
"I am satisfied that our friendly countries in the Gulf are taking care of our citizens. Our embassies and missions are 24/7 helping them. They are offering food, residents, protections to them," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister didn't hold back when addressing criticism from the opposition Congress party regarding his government's handling of the West Asia situation. He accused the party of engaging in opportunistic politics during a time of global uncertainty.
"It is unfortunate that the Congress party is looking for politics at this time of global crisis. Congress is willingly making provocative statements to cause disruptions. Our people get stuck there so they can abuse Modi. This is their play," Modi charged.
In his Kerala address, Modi also appealed to voters to break away from the traditional pattern of alternating between UDF and LDF governments, urging them to give the BJP-NDA an opportunity to serve the state.
"You have given Congress and the Left more than 70 years. Now give a chance so that the BJP-NDA serves you. You will see a great glimpse of Viksit Keralam," he proposed to the audience.
Back in Tiruchirappalli, the Prime Minister shifted focus to state politics, launching a sharp attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu. He accused the party of betraying the mandate given by voters in 2021 and operating what he termed a "scientific corruption model."
"In 2021, the people of Tamil Nadu brought DMK to power. Instead of taking it as a responsibility, they have betrayed the mandate. In DMK, everything starts and ends with one family. Ministers may change, MLAs may change, but power remains with one dynasty. DMK is infamous for its scientific corruption model. Today, the same model is being used to make Tamil Nadu an ATM for one family. A Minister from this very district is involved in a huge cash-for-jobs scam," Modi alleged.
The Prime Minister's visit to Tiruchirappalli also included the inauguration of multiple development projects valued at approximately Rs 5,650 crore, underscoring the central government's commitment to infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu.
As global tensions continue to evolve, Modi's message centered on national unity, verified information sharing, and confidence in India's ability to weather international storms while safeguarding its citizens' interests both at home and abroad.
