Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly asserted that critical minerals, advanced technology and global supply chains should not be weaponised by any country to serve narrow self-interests. Speaking at the BRICS Summit outreach session in Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi emphasized the urgent need for greater international cooperation in securing critical minerals and making supply chains more resilient and diversified.

Highlighting the importance of long-term sustainability in development financing, he urged member nations to ensure demand-driven decision-making, maintain healthy credit ratings, and promote financial responsibility in projects funded by the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB).

Shifting focus to the role of emerging technologies, PM Modi underlined that technology particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a defining role in the progress and well-being of societies in the 21st century. He said AI has the power to transform lives across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance, but also presents challenges related to ethics, bias, and misuse.

Reaffirming India’s balanced and inclusive approach, the Prime Minister said the country is moving forward with the vision of “AI for All”, using artificial intelligence to enhance human potential and uphold human values. He stressed the need for international cooperation to develop Responsible AI governance, ensuring innovation and ethical safeguards go hand in hand.
