External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar highlighted the need for stronger, diversified and secure global supply chains during Plenary III on Supply Chains at the G20 Summit in Atlanta. The session concluded with discussions on improving international economic cooperation and responding to emerging global challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jaishankar said supply chain security and resilience have become essential to the stability and overall health of the global economy. He called for greater cooperation among countries to develop reliable supply networks that can withstand disruptions caused by pandemics, geopolitical tensions, climate events and unexpected operational challenges.

Emphasising the need for balanced economic growth, the External Affairs Minister said nations must have the opportunity to industrialise. He also stressed that predatory business practices and efforts to weaken fair competition should be firmly opposed.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted diversification and de-risking, particularly across connectivity and production networks, as key elements of supply chain resilience. He noted that reducing excessive dependence on a limited number of countries or markets, while spreading production across different regions, can help prevent the misuse of financial systems, natural resources, manufacturing capabilities and market share.

He also urged the G20 to promote the de-politicisation of markets, stating that international trade and economic partnerships should be guided by transparency, fairness and mutual benefit.

The Minister said G20 members need to balance their individual national priorities with the wider interests of the global community. Encouraging transparent, diversified and multiple supply chains, he added, would help create a more balanced and inclusive global economy with participation from a wider range of stakeholders.

Dr. Jaishankar's remarks highlighted India's approach to strengthening global economic resilience through supply chain diversification, fair competition, dependable connectivity and international cooperation. He also emphasised the importance of keeping supply networks open, reliable and responsive to the requirements of all participating countries.

India's participation in the G20 reflects its continued efforts to support a resilient, inclusive and balanced global economic framework, with a focus on sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
