India and UAE Vow to Protect Trade Flows Amid Regional Supply Chain Pressures

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal convened a virtual bilateral meeting on Friday with UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, with both leaders placing a strong emphasis on the urgent need to restore regional stability and ensure continuity across shared supply chains.

The meeting came against a backdrop of growing geopolitical uncertainty in the region, prompting both nations to reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding trade corridors and economic ties that have grown significantly stronger in recent years.

Opening the dialogue, Goyal welcomed the recent ceasefire announced in the region, expressing optimism that it would serve as a foundation for enduring peace and long-term stability. He stressed that uninterrupted trade flows are not merely a commercial priority but a cornerstone of the broader strategic and economic relationship between India and the UAE.

Goyal also used the meeting to formally convey India's solidarity with the UAE, condemning recent attacks on Emirati soil and expressing the Indian government's unwavering support.

In a gesture of appreciation, he thanked the Emirati leadership for the support extended to the Indian diaspora residing in the UAE during the period of heightened uncertainty — a community that numbers in the millions and forms one of the most vital links between the two countries.

Both ministers acknowledged that regional supply chains have come under considerable strain as a result of ongoing geopolitical developments. They agreed that coordinated, proactive efforts from both sides would be essential to maintaining smooth and efficient trade operations in the near term.

Goyal specifically appreciated the steps the UAE has taken to mitigate disruptions, highlighting the development of alternate logistics routes and the expansion of multimodal transport systems as forward-looking measures that reflect the UAE's role as a global logistics hub. These initiatives, he noted, are critical not only to bilateral trade but to broader regional supply chain resilience.

On India's part, Goyal outlined a series of measures the government has implemented to support exporters facing logistical and operational challenges. These steps are aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, reinforcing India's positioning as a dependable and resilient trade partner in an increasingly volatile global environment.
