Boeing’s worker instructions criticized for complexity and confusion.

Boeing Co.’s quality management system came under intense scrutiny during a hearing investigating a January 5 incident involving a 737 Max 9 aircraft. A representative for Boeing workers criticized the company's processes as overly complex and difficult to follow. Lloyd Catlin, a business representative for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which represents thousands of Boeing employees, stated, "The company’s system is very complicated. The procedures and instructions have undergone numerous changes, especially over the last decade, making them ambiguous and open to misinterpretation." These concerns were highlighted during the second day of an extensive hearing held by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The hearing aimed to investigate why a panel, known as a door plug, detached from a nearly-new Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft in January.
