Balmer Lawrie bets on third-party logistics services. Diversified public sector undertaking Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. is on track to make its entire third-party logistics service fully operational by the end of the current financial year positioning the segment as a key growth driver for its logistics vertical. As part of its strategic push into the 3PL space, the company is developing a central logistics hub in Dankuni, West Bengal supported by three regional spokes located in Siliguri, Guwahati and Bhubaneshwar.

“We have already started work on one part of the Dankuni hub. Around 50,000 sq ft of the total 1.5 lakh sq ft facility is currently operational. We have begun handling consignments especially with increased volumes ahead of Durga Puja,” said Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Chairman and Managing Director of Balmer Lawrie, in an exclusive interview.

Each of three supporting spokes Siliguri, Guwahati and Bhubaneswar will span 25,000 sq ft and are expected to be ready within the next three to six months. “One goal is to provide a comprehensive supply chain solution to clients with value added services and robust technology support. A well-connected network is key to the success of this model.” Palchaudhuri added.

The 3PL initiative includes two categories of transportation primary distribution and long-haul logistics to meet diverse customers needs across regions. In addition, a cold chain facility is under development at the Dankuni hub. Scheduled for completion by March 2026, the cold storage infrastructure will cater to businesses in the dairy, fresh food, meat & seafood and quick service restaurant segments.
